If you want to move out, you need to let us know in advance
This will usually need to be at least one month before you plan to leave, but your tenancy agreement will contain more details. If you are unsure of your notice period, please contact us.
The notice period starts from the time you give notice in writing or by email, so it’s important that you are ready to move out on the date agreed. Your tenancy agreement will always be ended on a Sunday.
You’ll be required to leave the property clean and empty of all possessions, and to clear your rent account. Rent will be charged during the notice period until the day that the tenancy legally ends and you make the keys available to us.
While you can move into another property or into residential care before the end of the tenancy, be aware that if you claim Housing Benefit or the housing element of Universal Credit, this will end as soon as you move. This means you may be liable to pay full rent to Coastline for the notice period.
Ending a tenancy on behalf of another person
You also need to give notice if you’re helping someone else move out, or or are clearing a home on behalf of someone who has died.
Government regulations mean Housing Benefit payments stop the Monday after a person passes away. This means that even if they did not have rent to pay while living in their home, Housing Benefit will not cover the notice period and rent must be paid by their estate during this time.
We realise that ending a tenancy after a bereavement is a difficult time and we will work with you to ensure it is dealt with sensitively.
If a customer no longer has the capacity to terminate their tenancy, we can accept notice from somebody with the legal power to do so, for example someone with power of attorney. If you do not have power of attorney please give us details of a care home, social workers and GP so we can contact them.
Please contact us at any time if you need some help or advice.
