Homechoice is changing

The information lower down this page on how to find a home with us changes from 17th February.

Here's an update from Cornwall Council:

Our approach to allocating social and affordable homes in Cornwall is changing, with a new Cornwall Homechoice Policy and applicant portal going live from 1 April 2025.

To get ready for the changes, we will be pausing the weekly adverts and bidding cycles, with the last advert cycle closing at midnight on Monday 17 February 2025.

The register will be closed from 5pm on 6 March 2025, including for any new applications. Any applications that are in the process of being assessed at the time of closure, will be prioritised for assessment from 1 April 2025.

How to find a home with us

Our homes available for rent are advertised on Cornwall Council’s Homechoice website.

This online register operates a choice-based lettings system, allowing you to bid for properties where you meet the eligibility criteria.

Applicants are generally selected in a priority order set by the relevant policy. To maximise your opportunities you should check the website every week and bid regularly.

The steps are

  1. Register with Cornwall Homechoice - once that's verified you'll receive a notification that you can start bidding.
  2. Bid for homes - you can only do this for homes you are entitled to, for example one with the right number of bedrooms for your needs.
  3. Wait to hear if you've been shortlisted - you'll be contacted to check you meet the eligibility criteria for the home.
  4. Have a viewing - you must take a look at the home and, because demand is high, decide if you would like it fairly quickly.

Homes across Cornwall

Most of our homes are in central Cornwall, from Redruth and Camborne in the north of our main area, to Helston and The Lizard in the south.

As a growing landlord planning to build at least 1000 homes between 2021 and 2025, we have newer developments in the east of the county, including Launceston, Liskeard and Bodmin.

We have a broad range of homes available, including houses, flats and bungalows. This includes housing for older people and Extra Care accommodation.

We also offer temporary housing and support for people who may find themselves in crisis.

Extra Care housing

For customers requiring additional care or support, we have Miners Court Extra Care in Redruth.

The first of its kind in Cornwall, it offers residents a home for life with on-site care and support services from podiatry to hairdressing, memory clinics to assisted bathing.
