An 18-month new-build project in a picturesque village on the Roseland peninsula has been officially unveiled.
Eight social rentals and five shared ownership homes have been built in Veryan and a gathering of Coastline colleagues and local councillors visited the development to mark its opening.
Cornwall councillor Julian German, who had the honour of cutting the ribbon, said: “It’s fantastic to come to Veryan and see affordable homes which will have direct and immediate benefits for the village.
“We’re in an area where housing costs are high, so it is vitally important that we have affordable homes which keep people in the village and make a big difference to amenities such as the shop, pub and school.
The development, which is called Ochre Works, is on land between Roseland Gardens and the village’s sports and social club. It comprises four one-bed bungalows, four two-beds and five three-beds.
James Cox, Assistant Director of Development and Sales, said: “We’re delighted with the development, which had certain challenges such as the discovery of an unknown storm water drain. Classic Builders overcame all the issues on site to produce something which sits really well with the local vernacular and will provide fantastic affordable homes in Veryan.”
One couple to benefit from the new builds are Ben and Chloe, who were previously living with Ben’s parents in the village.
Just as the homes were being finished, Chloe gave birth to the couple’s first child, which would have created an extremely cramped situation.
Chloe said: “My partner Ben and me are so grateful to have been given the opportunity to live here at Ochre Works. The house is so spacious and it is such a lovely home. Going from living in a small box room whilst expecting our first baby to now living here feels like a luxury.
“It has changed our lives to have been given a home forever for our little girl to grow up in. We absolutely love living in Veryan with such a community feel and we can’t thank Coastline enough for giving us and our seven-week-old baby this opportunity.”
