Investors in People has awarded Coastline Housing, a key provider of housing and support in Cornwall, its We invest in people, gold accreditation.
Gold accreditation means that Coastline has the right people management policies in place but more than that, it means everyone - from CEO to apprentice - takes ownership for making them come to life.
Coastline Housing is an independent, not-for-profit housing association owning and managing over 5,000 homes. That includes social housing for thousands of people across Cornwall, plus shared ownership and rent to buy homes to help people get a home of their own. Coastline's Extra Care scheme in Redruth houses many older people, and its services for anyone experiencing homelessness help hundreds each year who are rough sleeping.
Commenting on the award, Allister Young, Coastline Housing’s CEO, said: “This gold accreditation shows how committed we are to attracting the best colleagues and supporting them with excellent training and career opportunities. That enables us to provide top quality services to all our customers and continue growing the organisation, building more homes for local people so we can all work towards ending the housing crisis in Cornwall.”
Hannah Tripp, Coastline's Head of People & Culture added: “What makes this gold accreditation so special is that it’s based on what Coastline employees say about the organisation in Investors in People’s independent surveys and interviews. It’s really gratifying to hear just how much people want to work with us and plan to stay. But the work doesn’t stop here. We know that in a time when employers need to compete to attract the best talent we need to keep evolving our offer, something we will continue to work on.”
One of the things colleagues liked most about working for Coastline was the chance to do some special fundraising every year for other local charities. In September, for their annual marathon challenge, colleagues collectively covered over 800 miles in eight hours by walking, running, cycling and swimming during a single work day. This included a lunchtime dog walk with many much-loved pets joining the fun. The challenge raised over £4,000 for StreetVet and is just one of many charity and wellbeing activities the landlord runs for staff across the year.
StreetVet provides essential veterinary care and services to the pets of people experiencing homelessness. Staff chose to support this charity as they wanted to give something back in recognition of its longstanding work with Coastline’s own homeless service clients.
Paul Devoy, CEO of Investors in People, said: “We’d like to congratulate Coastline Housing. Gold accreditation on We invest in people is a fantastic effort for any organisation, and places Coastline in fine company with a host of organisations that understand the value of people.”
Investors in People is a community of 15,000 organisations across 75 countries. It believes that the success of an organisation begins and ends with people, and that by making work better for everyone they can make work better for every organisation - making society stronger, healthier and happier.
