Coastline Housing has earned a place on a top ten list of the fastest growing housing associations nationally for a record sixth year in a row.
The Cornish housing charity ranks at number seven in a list looking at how many new homes housing associations were building as a percentage of their current stock.
Coastline Housing has consistently been in the top 10 fastest growing housing associations list for the last six years for developing new homes at a high level and consistent pace.
The list has been compiled and issued by Inside Housing, who undertook a detailed sector-wide survey of development completions by housing associations in the past year.
Last year, Coastline developed 205 new homes, bringing its total stock in ownership or management up to 5,199. This was a growth of 3.9% within a 12-month period.
Chris Weston, Director of Development and Commercial Services, said: “This is a great result because what it means in real terms is more affordable housing for people who are in need of it locally. Although Coastline may be smaller in size than many of the large national housing associations on this list, it shows that we are growing fast and having an impact as we do so.”
Earlier this year Coastline announced it was making a £73 million investment to provide 270 more affordable homes in Cornwall over the next three years.
At the end of last year the housing charity received £22.8 million of grant funding from Homes England and then secured an further £50 million of loan funding after signing up to a new government backed scheme called the Affordable Homes Guarantee Fund this year facilitated by ARA Venn. Coastline was the first of three housing associations nationally to do so.
Allister Young, CEO, adds: “Amid the challenging economic backdrop we are all working against at the moment, investment like this into our local area is critical. The knock-on effects it will have on Cornwall’s economy and job market are not to be underestimated and, ultimately, it will mean hundreds more people have a safe, warm and comfortable place to call home.
“The fact that we’ve managed to hit this top ten list for six years in a row is testament to the wide range of Coastline colleagues who put so much energy into helping to improve Cornwall’s housing crisis day in, day out and for this we are incredibly grateful.”
Coastline is also continuing to grow its workforce with the launch of an exciting new apprenticeship scheme to offer people a kick-start to a career in housing or maintenance. The charity is currently on the lookout for 11 new apprentices across its business and details can be found here.
