Colleagues at Coastline are once again preparing to take on their annual marathon challenge - this year in aid of Cornwall Blood Bikes.
They are aiming to collectively raise £3,000 by completing as many marathon miles as they can on one day - Wednesday 24th September.
Assistant Director of Finance Zoe Field, who organises the yearly marathon challenges at Coastline, said: " Cornwall Blood Bikes saved the NHS over £300,000 last year with what they do so we would like to see if we can raise 1% of that figure by seeking sponsorship of £3,000."
Colleagues are able to complete their challenge within a 24 hour period, in whatever way possible, either on their own or as part of a team.
A great response has been received to date with pledges including a tandem bike marathon, a 100 mile bike ride, a cross-county motorbike ride, a marathon golf session, a coastal marathon walk, a marathon walk wearing an extra 20kg of weight, walking marathons, cycling marathons, running marathons and a run-walk marathon to name but a few.
CEO Allister Young has also pledged to complete 10 marathons (that's 262 miles) over the course of the week finishing up on the 24th.
Cornwall Blood Bikes was chosen as Coastline's charity of the year this year following a colleague vote. The charity sees volunteer riders transport urgent medical supplies, such as blood products, samples, medication, and donor breast milk, between NHS hospitals and other medical facilities in Cornwall.
This service, operating outside normal hours and on weekends/bank holidays, uses motorcycles to bypass traffic and ensure timely, cost-free delivery of time-sensitive materials, ultimately helping to save lives and improve patient care. They also deliver medical notes, documents and medical equipment. The service is provided at no cost to the NHS or other medical partners.
